Regulations & Measures: Before entering [After]

Fit to Fly

Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, every non-Thai national must present a health certificate named “Fit to Fly” before entering Thailand. As its name suggested, a Fit-to-Fly certificate is a medical document certifying that you are free of symptoms and fit to fly. You can get it from a hospital by informing that you want to get the “Fit-to-Fly” certificate. The certificate must be issued by a doctor no more than 72 hours before departure. For example, if your flight is on 14 January 2020, your Fit-to-Fly certificate must be issued on 11, 12 or 13 January 2020. The certificate is required upon check-in with the airline and on your arrival in Thailand later. Do note that failure to present it may result in being denied boarding.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Locanation, Thailand’s top real estate reviewer, have cooperated to launch a project named “ASQ Paradise” (https://asq.locanation.com/) aiming to provide information about Thailand’s regulations during the outbreak of COVID-19. Apart from the basic information regarding the required steps for entering Thailand, the website also provides an in-depth search function for choosing ASQ and ALSQ hotels for your two weeks quarantine. Let’s take a look at it!

The STV visa targets long-stay tourists and allows non-Thai nationals to enter Thailand under the condition that they comply with Thailand’s quarantine regulations.

YSK: What to consider when planning a trip?

It is undeniable that COVID-19 has changed how we used to live. The widespread pandemic affects our lives in many different aspects, including how we travel. Before COVID-19, tourists only have to worry about VISA, passport, insurance, money and whatnot. In this day and age, however, tourists have to worry about other matters apart from the usual ones to ensure a safety trip. Stated below are some basic but important guidelines one should follow before planning a trip to a country.

1. Be sure to check the latest news of the country you plan to visit.
It is crucial to know the country’s situation in advance, especially information regarding the COVID-19 situation such as travel advice or necessary regulations to follow. The website WHO and the country’s Ministry of Health are a good starting place.

2. Avoid high-risk destinations or high-density destinations.
High-risk destinations are an area which has a high number of COVID-19 cases. It goes without saying that traveling to such a place increases the odds of contracting the virus, so it is highly advised to avoid it.  Similarly, it is also in your best interest to avoid high-density destinations because of the same reason.

3. Don’t forget a hand sanitizer.
Pack a travel-sized hand sanitizer in your suitcase so you can disinfect your hands wherever you go. Proper hand sanitation is a secret technique to beat COVID-19!

4. Wear a face mask in public.
Be responsible to the society and wear a face mask every time you are in public. Be sure to wear it properly for your safety and everyone else.

The four guidelines mentioned above will ensure tourists a safety trip. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had made it so that we can’t live the way we used to be, but we can make it better by taking a part in preventing it from further spreading; for yourself and for the world.

*Noted: These are only a general guideline on what to consider before planning a trip to a country. It is advised to check with the embassy before traveling for further detailed information.

YSK: What to prepare before entering Thailand?

Are you interested in visiting Thailand but absolutely have no clue on what to prepare? Worry not! The following guide will show you what documents are needed. Thailand, similar to other countries, requires some necessary documents in addition to the usual travel documents before entering the country. It is officially announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), the Royal Thai Immigration Police Bureau, and other Embassies abroad, that tourists must prepare four new documents if they wish to enter Thailand.

1. Certificate of Entry (CoE)
All non-Thai nationals who wish to enter Thailand must submit this certificate. Each application’s reasons and urgency will be inspected case-by-case before granting permission. To obtain the certificate, visit https://coethailand.mfa.go.th and follow the instructions. The application process should be done 7 to 14 days before the date of travel.  Don’t confuse the Certificate of Entry with visa as they are a different document.

* It is advised that tourists own Thai visa before submitting the CoE application as you may have to provide it on the CoE platform.

*Another necessary documents that tourists have to provide for issuing CoE are booking confirmation from your chosen ASQ hotel and travel insurance that covers COVID-19.

2. Fit-to-Fly Certificate
As its name suggested, Fit-to-Fly Certificate is a medical document certifying that you are fit to travel because you don’t have any symptoms.  Before entering Thailand, be sure to obtain the certificate signed by a doctor and issued no more than 72 hours before departure.

3. COVID-Free Certificate
Unlike the Fit-to-Fly Certificate, this is a laboratory result specifically certifies that you test negative for coronavirus and that you are free of COVID-19 symptoms. The test uses the RT-PCR method and must be done by eligible medical or testing institutions no more than 72 hours before departure.

4. Insurance
All foreigners who wish to enter Thailand must obtain insurance, preferably one with coverage of 100,000 USD or more for COVID-19 related health issues. Be careful when choosing the insurance plan, because most travel insurance doesn’t cover pandemics. So, make sure that yours covers COVID-19 before buying.

The added documents may require more time and money for preparation, yet they are mandatory for ensuring a safe trip and preventing the spread of COVID-19. Beyond these requirements, the amazing Thailand waits for you.

Regulations & Measures: After entering

Arrival in Thailand: What to Expect?

As of December 2020, Thailand has opened the border and allowed tourists from all around the world to enter regardless of the COVID-19 situation in their country of origin. However, visitors must comply with pandemic preventive measures and regulations before arrival, arriving, and after arrival. In our other articles, we have talked about necessary processes and documents required for entering. Here we will walk you through all the new normal steps one must comply after arriving in Thailand.

1. Inspection of travel and immigration documents
  • visitors’ documents for entering Thailand will be inspected.
2. A screening procedures
  • visitors have their body temperature checked.
  • visitors will be questioned about their medical information and recent travel history.
*In the event that visitor’s body temperature is over 37.5 degrees Celsius, or if the visitors have a symptom of coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath, and/or difficulty breathing, they will get a swab test to identify virus. The procedure for the test itself and the result afterwards does not take long. If the test is negative, visitors may proceed to the next steps. If the test is positive, however, the visitor will be referred to a hospital for treatment.

3. Inspection of more documents
  • Visitors’ documents are further inspected including Certificate of Entry, health insurance, COVID-19 free certificate and Fit-to-Fly certificate, both of which must be signed no more than 72 hours before departure.
4. Visitors’ name will be checked to see if you are in the ASQ or ALSQ list.
5. Visitors will answer questions and have their passports checked as usual.
6. Off to grab your bags!

You are now officially arriving in Thailand! Next, you will be transferred to your chosen ASQ or ALSQ hotel by the hotel’s transport service where you will undergo quarantine for two weeks.

What is there to know about ASQ & ALSQ?

ASQ is shortened from Alternative State Quarantine while ALSQ is shortened from Alternative Local State Quarantine. To put it simply, they are an alternative choice for tourists to quarantine themselves after entering Thailand but do not wish to stay at the state quarantine hotels provided by the Thai government. They can stay at ASQ or ALSQ hotels at their own expenses. These hotels are approved by the Thai government as suitable for quarantine and partnered with eligible hospitals conducting COVID-19 tests during a stay.

Where are ASQ & ALSQ hotels located?

ASQ hotels are located in Bangkok while ALSQ hotels are located in Chonburi, Prachinburi, Buriram, and Phuket. (In the future, more provinces may take part in ALSQ such as Chiang Mai.) Tourists who arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport or Don Mueang International Airport can stay at the ASQ hotels in Bangkok, or ALSQ hotels in Chonburi and Prachinburi. The only exception are tourists who arrive at Phuket International Airport. They can only stay at the ALSQ hotels located in Phuket.

Why should you choose ASQ & ALSQ hotels?

ASQ & ALSQ hotels offer an alternative, luxurious, and extraordinary stay that will make your quarantine an enjoyable one. They offer a 15-days package covering all necessary aspects of a quarantine— transportation from the airport, accommodation, meals served to your room, cleaning service, etc. Guests will have their temperature taken every morning and take a COVID-19 test 2-3 times during the stay, usually on the 5th and 13th day of quarantine. If you are worried that you will die from boredom while staying put in a room, worry not! The hotels provide high speed internet in the room allowing guests access to various entertainment such as movie streaming, gaming, or online shopping.

How to reserve ASQ & ALSQ hotels?

It is recommended to reserve after you have registered for a Certificate of Entry. The 15-days quarantine package is best reserved directly with the hotel so you can request for confirmation documents, which will be used for confirming the application of the CoE. There are more than 100 ASQ & ALSQ hotels to choose from, each with different prices and options. If you are not sure which hotels to choose, check out https://asq.locanation.com/ and choose the one that best suits you!

*Noted: terms and conditions may vary from hotels to hotels. Please check with the hotel during the reservation.

4 Items for Safety Trips

During the COVID-19 outbreak, wearing a face mask and regularly washing your hands are a must to prevent the spread of the virus and reduce the risk of contracting it. Listed below are four items that you should carry with you. With these items, you will be safe no matter where you go!

1. Face mask
Wearing a mask is one way to avoid viruses and fine particulate matter that may attack the respiratory system. There are many different types of mask, ones that protect you from both viruses and particulate matter, and ones that only protect you from particulate matter. If you want to stay safe from COVID-19, choosing the best type of mask for you is crucial. There are six types of face mask sold in general.
  • Medical Mask This is the best mask at an affordable price. It protects wearers from respiratory system diseases and prevents the spread of viruses and bacteria from human to human at an astonishing success rate of 99%. It also protects you from particulate matter and pollen with a success rate of about 66.37%.
  • Carbon Medical Face Mask Similar to the medical masks, carbon medical face masks can filter odor better than ordinary masks.
  • N95 N95 masks can keep out even the smallest viruses. They have a protection rate higher than normal medical masks, as well as high efficiency in preventing PM2.5 and PM10, with a success rate of about 95%.
  • FFP1 This mask is similar to the N95 mask in terms of its efficiency. It can protect wearers from particulate matter, bacteria, as well as viruses, fine particulate matter such as PM2.5 and PM10, with a success rate of about 94%. Moreover, the FFP1 mask can save you from iron dust too.
  • Cloth mask There are two types of cloth mask: a cotton mask and a layered synthetic fibre mask. Cotton masks can protect wearers from particulate matter and respiratory droplets. However, they can’t keep out small viruses. Layered synthetic fibre masks are similar to cotton masks as they can filter particulate matter and viruses.
  • Foam mask Foam masks can filter particulate matter and pollen. They are washable and quick-drying, and can return to their original shape.
2. Alcohol Gel
Alcohol Gel is as important as face masks, and a pocketable one is especially useful. It should consist of at least 70% ethyl alcohol, a level of concentration that can break the lipid bilayer of viruses such as influenza, herpes and COVID-19. Alcohol gel evaporates at room temperature and gets rid of viruses and bacteria. Nevertheless, washing your hands with soap and water is even better.

3. Soaps
As mentioned above, although alcohol gel can get rid of viruses, washing your hands with soap and water is even better. It also doesn’t make your hands dry and irritated as much as using alcohol gel.

4. Antibacterial wet wipes
You can use antibacterial wipes not only to clean your hands and body, but also to clean surfaces that you use such as toilet seats and public tables.
